- Tues. 10/15/19: FINAL TEST ON BEOWULF
- It will be an essay test (discussion of essay expectations)
- You will be allowed to use YOUR text of the epic poem (no notes, handouts, etc.)
- You will be given three topics and you will be required to write full essays on two of the three topics in the class period.
- Monday, 10/14/19 at 8 pm: I will have a live online study session (YouTube). I will Tweet the link and post it to the weblog / Google Classroom an hour beforehand. You will have the opportunity to send me questions via chat, Twitter, or email. The session will last about an hour.

- Sample essay topics:
- Trace the significance of (character/concept) through the epic poem.
- Given a quote from a Beowulf scholar, agree or disagree using evidence from the text.
- Given a concept from the Halverson article, explain or defend/challenge it.
- Given a quote from the text of Beowulf, indicate who said it, the purpose, and the significance of the statement to the work as a whole.
- Given a new concept, evaluate the extent to which that concept is present in the epic poem.
- Given a subject like honor or trust, explain a theme that is learned about that subject through Beowulf.
